3 Fashion Fixes to Looking Slimmer in a Dress.. in a Flash!

Submitted by on Sun, 17 Jan, 2010 – 13:182 Comments

You want to wear a gorgeous fitted knee-long dress but you’ve got the extra flab that you gained in the Christmas season. You want to look slim but don’t have time to work-out or diet. What do you do?

I’ve got 3 solutions for you that don’t require extreme fasting:

1. Shapewear

Body shapers are the perfect underwear garments that can take inches off your body.

There are several shapewear types that cater every women’s needs, like for example waist cinchers that define and narrow your waist, panty girdles that slim down your hips, butt and thighs (perfect for women who are bottom heavy),plus size shapewear for full figure women, shapewear slip to go with your mini dress, and many many more.

2. High Heels

Everybody knows that adding high heels to their outfits make them look taller and leaner, but what many forget to do is to pick the right high heel shoes that compliment the shape of their legs. If you have muscular legs and wear shoes with very thin heels you’ll only make them look heavier because of the obvious difference (or if you have very skinny legs and attempt to wear chunky platform heels, they end up looking like dangling bricks).

So when picking a pair of heels to go with dress, always remember to choose the right heel size that compliments your legs. Nothing too thin. You could also go for thin heels but make sure the shoes have a thicker platform.

Here are other shoe details that elongate your figure as well as slim down your ankles and legs:

  • High heels that are more than 1 inch tall
  • Knee to thigh length boots
  • Details that run vertically like zippers, stitches, etc.
  • Pointy toes
  • T-straps
  • Open toe (the more skin you show the slimmer you’ll look)

3. Black hose

Black opaque, glossy and sheer pantyhose and stockings instantly slim your legs and thighs as well as making them look flawless. Double the effect by matching the hose with a black or dark colored (plum, dark navy blue, dark brown, etc.) dress. You can also look extra lean and sleek with a pair of high heels that match your black hose. Tip: Add accessories to create a unique look.

I just found your site and am enjoying it. I especially enjoy the french style. I am enjoying your writing about MSM too. Does your fashion advice also apply to 47 year olds with a great body?

Thank you for your kind words :-) although my fashion advice is mostly geared towards 20 to 30 year olds, you can still apply the same basic tips. If you have a killer body then you can still wear fitted clothes but I advise you to be careful with too short skirts, dresses and shorts, and too much cleavage :-) I think knee length or one to two inch above your knees is enough to show off your legs but keep it a little modest. Have you taken a look at some of the style advice on my website's forums? Women in their 40s have submitted their questions regarding fashion and their age. The link is here: Fashion advice
