How Do You Know If a Color is ‘Cool’ or ‘Warm’?
If you want to wear the perfect colors for your complexion, you must understand the difference between a ‘cool’ and warm’ color. This is quite an important piece of information, because it makes shopping so much simpler! Use it to pick the the right clothes, jewelry and makeup.
True red is an example of how many can mistake it for being a warm color when it is in fact cool. You’ll have to look for the undertone of a color to figure out if it’s warm or cool.
Let me explain how it works:
You’re either a warm, cool or a neutral
If you’re warm it means that you have a yellow or golden skin undertone (example: olive and creamy/ivory skin tone).
Your hair and eyes are usually reddish or earthy.
On the other hand, if you’re cool it means that your skin has a pink or blue skin undertones (example: ‘English Rose’). You can also be cool if you have dark ebony skin as long as there is a blue tone to it.
Compared to warm skin tones your hair and eyes tend do be ashy and pale (or very deep).
Very few women have a neutral skin tone. If you have a neutral skin tone it means that your skin has a mix of both warm and cool undertone and that you suit almost all colors (except for ashy shades).

So basically, you need to wear colors that are similar to the undertone of your complexion to really yield a positive result in your appearance. If you’re cool wear cool colors. If you’re warm then wear warm colors.
What is the difference between ‘cool’ and ‘warm’?
A cool color has a bluish or icy paleness tone to it, such as true red, burgundy, sea green, snow white, and pale rose (anything in the blue spectrum). So if ‘cool’ colors are right for your skin tone then your complexion will look angelically brilliant. If you’re warm you’ll notice that cool colors overempower your looks, making your face ‘disappear’ and look bland.

A warm color has reddish/yellow/peachy tone to it (more like earthy). Examples are: tomato red, brown, teal blue, olive green, ivory and peachy pink. Wearing these will enhance a warm complexion and result in a delightful ‘peaches and cream’. If warm colors aren’t your colors you’ll notice that they’re not ‘strong’ enough to make an impression on your skin. In fact, you’ll look washed out.
